History Death is well, Death, he's been there since before the beginning of anything and he'll be there after the end, in the grand history of existence, Death has been the only constant. So basically, he's old, he's very old. In fact he's appeared in every single Discworld book except 'The Wee Free Men' (which encompasses 36 books, so forgive me for not summarising them all >_>; ) He's had an eventful existence, in his time Death has adopted a baby human girl, taken on an apprentice, become a grandfather, the Hogfather and many other things. He sometimes takes breaks from being Death, and in this time has taken on jobs like being a chef at a tavern in Ankh-Morpork. He's also, unknown to most of the Discworld, the one who's stopped things from going tits up a lot of the time, usually indirectly and from the shadows. Because there's always some human with a bright idea thats a little too bright, or an Auditor who wants to stop the chaos that is existence. Usually he accomplishes this by using willing (or not so willing) humans like his granddaughter Susan. Death lives in his own realm, where everything is made up of different shades of black, and lives with his manservant Albert (who used to be a famous wizard in the Discworld), the Death of Rats, Quoth the Raven and his horse Binky. His daughter Ysabell used to live there until he brought in his apprentice Mort, the two falling in love eventually so Death sent them off to live on the Discworld instead, giving them extra time on their lives (which he was eventually forced to collect on when Susan was still a young girl). He used to work with War, Famine and Pestilence as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse until they broke up (there was also a fifth one called Ronnie, but he left before they became famous) and sometimes reunites with them when needed. False Memories Roger Mortis... has no idea where he came from or what he did before taking on the job of mortician in Terra. He just happened to show up on the day the previous owner unexpectedly died after shutting himself inside one of the cold storage areas. Realising the work would go undone with him dead he decided to do him a favour and finish the days work for him, taking to it with an unnatural amount of ease. Of course, no sooner did he finish taking care of one body when another would come in, as it was, Roger ended up working there for the next few years. Which suited him just fine really. He worked and wandered around the city, inexplicably able to make his way around all three levels with ease, hardly anyone seemed to notice him, even when he should stick out like a sore thumb. He also had a remarkable timing for showing up when someone was dying or had just died, often engaging in quick conversations with the deceased (which he found to be a perfectly normal occurence) before they went off to wherever the dead go. With his personal life he had an apartment, a fondness for curries and a pet rat he inexplicably picked up one day, which sometimes conflicted with his love for cats and saving them. But overall, he lives a pleasant, if not bizarre and bemusing life. Personality Death is a public service figure, in his own opinion at least, therefore he's very efficient. Its his job to make sure the dead don't linger where they they shouldn't be and get recycled into new lives, before they end up turning into ghosts and poltergeists. He sometimes has a tendency to get exasperated when people are taking a while to move on because of this. As an outside observer to people's lives, Death is fascinated by humans, and quite often baffled by their behaviour, on the few occassions he has attempted to mingle with humans he tends to act on how he thinks he should behave, and is often quite far off the mark. He's also somewhat sympathetic towards them and interferes on humanity's behalf to save them from threats like the auditors. Death has also expressed sadness at times because he has the ability to prevent people's deaths, but most of the time isn't allowed to, he even gives mortals the ability to challenge him to games to save their lives. Even seeming to lose on purpose once to Granny Weatherwax over the life of a child. Appearance Normally, Death looks like a 7ft tall skeleton with two twinkling sapphire sparks for eyes, adorned in a black robe and carrying a very big sycthe. Usually though, he can only be seen by those with magic in them (witches or wizards), magical beings, animals and those people who are about to die/dead. Ordinary humans will just feel cold whenever he passes by. In Neo-Genesis or when he chooses to allow himself to be seen, Death appears as a very pale and very, very bony man whose appearance most would struggle to remember. If asked to describe him, even if they've met face to face many times, they will only be able to come up with a vague description for his looks. Abilities He's ignorant to the normal rules of time and space, which quite simply, don't affect him. Death can be anywhere and anywhen, and also ignore physical boundaries like walls by passing straight through them. In Neo-Genesis this will be restricted to being able to phase through solid objects and have good timing (yay coincidence) for being around when someone dies. He knows all creatures lifespans, and its his job to make sure they cross over, but he's not allowed to tell a mortal how long they have they left. He also has the ability to slip by completely undetected and unnoticed, but this is more due to people's mind making them believe he isn't there than an actual power apparently.</b> Relationships Current Relationships: apatheticary: (The Medicine Seller( Tea-buddy stainedecstasy: (Belial) Kitten eater D: letsputasmileon:(The Joker/Jack) Business provider OOC Player's Name/Nickname: Manda Player LJ: katamanda AIM or Email: mochamanda@googlemail.com Time zone: GMT [Death/Discworld] © [Terry Pratchett].
